Happy New Year QGIS AU Tribe! Woohoo Conference News!

And what a piece of news to start the year of the Fire Horse - yes it is time to be bold and consider heading very, very North!

Here are some tidbits to help make your decision:
  • Dates are Oct 5-6 with activities before and after - I would go from 3rd-10th Oct
  • Location is around Laax, Switzerland with the venue up on the mountain Crap Sogn Gion, the amazing Laax Galaxy - you catch a gondal up there from Laax Murschetg.
  • Accommodation in Laax Murschetg, Laax Dorf or nearby Films
    • Rocks Resort, Hotel Signina, Riders Hotel and many apartments so around $1-2k for around 10 days
    • Check out this cool map
    • Lots of AirBnB - this one is awesome 7 beds, 10 days for $3220.25
  • Flights (return) - seem to be around the $2k mark. Fly into Zurich, catch the train to Chur and then a bus to Laax Murschetg
  • Check out the Attending page for more info
Let me know if you are interested in going - it would be great to have some of us there. Also I will be researching some funding opportunities as well so stay tuned.

Kind regards
Em

Hi hive mind on a lazy Saturday arvo, kicking back.
I am trying to consume this geojson feed within QGIS and render the polygons and then identify nodes from another dataset that are in those areas. Sadly some of these geojson polygons are not coded as they should be and some are missing.

The feed is https://emergency.vic.gov.au/public/impact-areas-geojson.json and hopefully you can see the large polygon on the image provided.

If I use Postman or geojson.io , it renders the large polygon between Albury and Corryong on the NSW/Victorian border.

However, if I import it into QGIS 3.40.7-Bratislava, run the "Fix Geomerites" tool, I still cannot see that particular polygon.

This probably occurs during the stitching phase as the perimeter is scanned in parts and is not something I can control and will normally affect the larger polygons which are the ones I am more interested in.

Any thoughts on how to fix this so that we can run this process when required please?

TIA

Hi Ewen,

I've had luck fixing similar issues by running data through the buffer tool with buffer distance = 0. Seems to fix broken geometry sometimes.

Cheers,
Maia

I believe the issue is that geometry is a "GeometryCollection" and QGIS doesn't support GeoJSON GeometryCollections see https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/32747

As a workaround you can use ogr2ogr to explode geometry collections, eg.

> ogr2ogr -f GeoJSON -explodecollections exploded.geojson impact-areas-geojson.json

which will then show the polygon in QGIS.

Quick confirmation - Andrew's fix looks like it works :)

(was chasing a parallel thread but not that one....)

Thank you so much Andrew and Adam for a solution and I was hoping the buffer solution proffered by Maia would have worked as a simple fix but alas no. Thanks Maia for raising it though.

This is much appreciated and super timely.

Regards

Ewen
