Hi Folks,

Ā

Has anyone got any leads on getting CAP-AU files into QGIS?

Ā

Sample - https://alert.tas.gov.au/data/cap-au.xml

Ā

Cheers - Phil

How frequently?

Hi Bill,

Ā

Preferably as a live feed that gets updated regularly

Ā

Cheers Phil

Seems like the old GeoRSS feeds were taken down.

I quickly ported across some code I had written earlier and published it atĀ https://gitlab.com/beyondtracks/tas-alerts-geojson.

In the README there is a link to a live feed updated every 5 minutes, you can load that into QGIS. If you use my live link, expect that I may change it without notice.

I haven't but be a good project as CAP-AU is being used more broadly now.Ā  I like the use of polygon data in a lot of these emergency feeds.

I once worked onĀ https://www.abc.net.au/emergency/ and the CAP feeds made integration much easier

Cheers

Thanks for that Andrew but I think its suffering from the same QGIS issue of geojson geometry collections that we have had in the past.

Ā

I am not getting the required amount of points and no polygons

Ā

Hi Rae,

Ā

I agree it would be great to get support for this as its now all over the place in emergency management organisations.

Ā

I think the biggest issue is the geometry collections that still don’t work as expected in QGIS. A single event seems to have the ability to have a point, a circle and a polygon of data!

Ā

I'll add a variant that explodes GeometryCollections

You are a champion! Many thanks

Ā

It seems like each incident would normally have at least one point, a circle (!!) ā€˜alert area’ and possibly a polygon,

True theoretically there is just a polygon and a circle but when the circle has a diameter of zero ... 😁

Great if you have a way of exploding the geometry attribute

Cheers

Rae

I've added an option to split into different Features which avoids GeometryCollections

BINGO! Many thanks Andrew – works perfectly!

Ā

Now to work on a new QGIS style sheet with all the new icons.
