HI All
Colin Mazengarb mentioned we should get a QGIS Australian focused style hub going and others chimed in, in agreement. He also mentioned a Data Discovery one as well. I will also work on that. I I am thinking about maybe creating a new 'Resources' section on the website. I don't want the website to get too crazy, but I think this is needed.

Just a word on Data Discovery - there are some awesome plugins - if you have anymore you want to add in, send an email with the deets.
Onto Style!
So if you have a particularly awesome style for your discipline, you can upload it to the QGIS Style Hub for others to use.
To do this:
  1. Choose what you want to export and get a jpg/png of it for the preview
  2. Go to your style manager
  3. Click on Export
  4. Select the styles to export
  5. Export as XML
  6. Login or sign up to the QGIS Hub
  7. Click on Submit Style and load it up. Don't forget to add Australia into the description so we can search it.
  8. Let us all know via this list that you have loaded it up.
If you want to create a style and want to work with others on it, perhaps undertake this via a GitHub repo, like these examples:
We already have a GitHub repo for this here: https://github.com/qgisau/style that we can start populating.

So start collaborating!

Cheers
Em

Hi All
I have a a couple of questions here on whether we can provide an organisation's layer style:
  1. Do we need the custodian of the style's express permission to upload it
  2. If the style includes sources such as fonts or svgs that have originated in another proprietary software, are we allowed to publish that?
Keen to hear your thoughts.
Cheers
Em

Re question 2, I found this article which indicates that we can not host this organisation's fonts

Hi Emma,

There appears to be two repositories for styles in QGIS

http://qgis-hub.fast-page.org/styles.php?i=1 and https://plugins.qgis.org/styles/?order_by=-upload_date&&q=&&

Any idea why?

It seems to me that some styles and fonts can be copyrighted so you have to be careful, but my rule of thumb is that most common fonts and styles are not.

Cheers

Iain,

I’ve uploaded some open source styles to
http://qgis-hub.fast-page.org/styles.php but I did see the other repo as well. Not sure why there are multiple. Perhaps they will converge to a single repo over time.
I’ve also replicated the EMSINA All Hazards styles which are shared across a number of platforms already (including Geoserver), but have asked for permission from that group to share more broadly. Will be interesting to see what they say.

Cheers,
Shaun

I might ask the qgis list about it.

Hi.
I've submitted a PR to the qgisau style repo. Apparently collection metadata needs to include 'email=' even if there is no value. Go figure.

Thanks Rick
Sorry for the confusion - I created a new repo which is what we are using going forward: https://github.com/qgisau/QGISAU-Resources
There is no need to follow the QGIS Resource Sharing Plugin instructions - I lost a lot of time setting everything up before I found that out. Just create a folder under collections in the above repo and then people can download them as required. Now and then I will go in and can load them up in the style https://plugins.qgis.org/styles/.
We could also try and improve this style by putting in some filter abilities. It is all confusing that there are 3 possible places to go to - I suppose you use the one that works best.
