I wanted to ask about various meetups and training opportunities around QGIS. I am sort of learning on my own but it would be handy to have a few events to go to to inspire/encourage me along the road. Any pointers to such events - I am based in Sydney.

Cheers - Iain

There is a FOSS4G Oceania annual conference, but this year it will be in Fiji.

Hi Iain,

This doesn't directly answer your question, but hopefully provides some resources.

FOSS4G Oceania annual conference as Jonah mentioned is a good meet up if you can make it along. If you can't make it along all the videos from sessions are one YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbqmnF77HxLCmO9d7LrEbpg

There was a user meetup in 2017. NorthRoadGeo has a youtube channel with the presentations here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiXIw8vAbto&list=PLQbaw-XC9jWFsTbZlIyoYLGsE4iZEUjFM

If you're a slack user the spatial community has a good QGIS channel as well - https://thespatialcommunity.org/

I also understand that Grant Boxer hosts a number of meetups in WA, and also has a training guide available for distribution.

Adding to what Andrew said.  Keep an eye out for announcements for this year as there are plans to run some local events around the place.

Regards,
Nathan

Hi Iain, we organised a small QGIS meetup in Perth a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't too much heavy lifting. We organised a free venue, 4 speakers, free registration on Humanitix, and we got a microgrant from OSGeo Oceania to pay for pizzas & drinks.

It was a lot of fun and a few of the people that came said they'd be interested in telling a story if we do another one. I hope we'll do more over the year!

All in all, a super positive experience and I recommend just going for it. Let me know if you want any more details or help in getting it going!

Cheers
John
