Legend items

Does anybody know if there a different way to prevent a layer from showing in the legend other than using the legend item and turning off auto update and deleting it from the list?

I do exactly what you suggest. AutoUpdate turned off every time and delete unwanted items.

Hey Nick

There is some work coming for 4.0 thanks to the Denmark User Group to give greater control in what layers appear in Legends. 

Option to exclude layer from automatic legends #32311

This enhancement will allow the user to exclude a layer from print layout legends created when the auto-update function is activated. Currently all layers are visible in the legend. This enhancement will expose an option for users to override this behavior via the “Legend” tab in a layer’s properties dialog.
