Styling a WMS feed in QGIS?

Firstly, thank you, again, to Emma for the "Basemaps, basemaps, basemaps" post, including the tip on creating a new User Profile. All that worked. And I learnt new stuff .

From it I found the Open Railway Map WMS 'feed' and created this for a local History FB group. It was well received.  My question is: in QGIS can we 'style'  such cool feeds; like adding a background to the railway line's names...or even producing a list of the names (viz the ones on this map)?   Or is it WYSIWYG and be happy with it :-) ?

mmm - correct me if I am wrong, but I think maybe if it is a WMTS you can - but for WMS you cannot. Definitely for WFS you can.
I would find the data - maybe from Open Street Maps download plugin and just add in the labels.
