Stockpile assessment

Hi All

I just recently saw this from Cesium about stockpile assessment using drones. Which was quite serendipitous as we may have an organisation who is interested in funding some development in this area. 

I've checked:

• plugins - Volume Calculation Tool (but was last updated in 2022)
• ODM

My questions are:

Is anybody successfully running stockpile processes using QGIS?

If so: 

• What software do you use apart from QGIS?
• Are there plugins you use?
• Is there a need for development?
