Good Morning,

I have been working with a client with a managed IT system and they cannot write to the C: root drive location.

When I try to select an alternate install location by running the network installer, there is no option using the express install and using the advanced install does not  download all the files. As a test, I have created a new folder called  >C:/PgmFiles>QGIS and attempted to install it there without success.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Regards Grant

Tricky one, from my experience you’ll need at least a windows account with local administrator privileges.

You’ll need to talk with their IT folks.

Our system is not quite as locked down, so I can copy an installer into C:\Temp folder and run from there using a windows account with local administrator privileges.

Thanks Simon,

Yes, it is a problem. I wonder if the QGIS folks can modify the network installer for alternate install location to avoid IT lockdown issues?

Cheers Grant

It will probably always come back to the level of privileges on the account used to install  L

Hi Grant,

By stating "managed IT system" are you saying that the client computer is an employer supplied PC sitting in an employer network? If so - then the decision to install new software sits with the network administrator, not the customer. In that case the problems you are encountering would be expected. Without the provision of an administrative login, you will not be able to complete any software installs. This is nota QGIS issue but a managed network security control. Can you provide any more clarity?
