A Message to the Global CLT Movement
from Senator Bernie Sanders
Kicking off the week of #WorldCLTDay2025, we’re honored and excited to share a special message from Senator Bernie Sanders, long-time supporter of community land trusts and former mayor of Burlington,
Vermont.
This message was made possible by the CLT Center's Board Co-President Brenda Torpy, a founding member and former CEO of Champlain Housing Trust, who personally reached out to Senator Sanders for this
occasion.
Echoing Senator Sanders’ message—thank you all for the incredible work you are doing.
Together, we are lifting up the global movement for community-led development on community-owned land.
If you haven’t seen it yet, we also put together an official press release to help spread the word. Please feel free to share both the video and press release with journalists, funders, and partners—or
translate and adapt them to reflect your local context and community.
