| | | | | Check Out the Materials from Last Month's Webinar! |
| Last month, we partnered with the Upcycling Trust Partnership to host a webinar on "Using CLTs to Deliver Energy Renovation and Permanent Affordability to Existing Housing." Presenters from Community Land Trust Brussels (CLTB), Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and City of Lakes Community Land Trust shared insights on sustainable housing renovations and integrating existing homes into the community land trust. Thank you again to everyone who participated!
Under each panelist's name below, you will find their video recording with subtitles, corresponding slide deck in English, and respective transcript in both English and French. Check out the recordings, share them with your colleagues, or feel free to use them as resources to support your work. |
| | | Upcoming Conversation Exchange |
| | Want to continue the conversation on last month's webinar? Join us and our previous webinar presenters for an hour-long conversation exchange on 23 October. This is a great opportunity for folks to share information about what you are doing in your local communities and discuss how you can implement some of the key concepts learned in the webinar into your own CLT. |
| | | | Belgium expands support for community land trusts: In Belgium, housing policy is managed by its three regional governments: Dutch-speaking Flanders, French-speaking Wallonia, and bilingual Brussels-Capital. While CLT efforts have taken root in Flanders-based CLTs Ghent and Leuven, until now Brussels has been the only region to officially recognize CLTs, and, years ago, the first in mainland Europe. Following the June elections, both Wallonia and Flanders have now expressed interest in supporting CLTs, marking a significant step forward for their development in Belgium. Here is the statement from the Government of Flanders; the Government of Wallonia. |
| Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Tina Smith: Our Solution to the Housing Crisis: In a recent New York Times article, Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota discussed the importance of CLTs in addressing the housing crisis. This national spotlight underscores the impact that state coalitions, like the Minnesota CLT Network, can have in raising awareness about CLTs. Organizations such as Rondo Community Land Trust have been instrumental in advocating for CLTs, and their efforts are now paying off. With another U.S. Senator championing CLTs, this is a testament to the growing influence of local networks in shaping housing policy. |
