Hi all

Just incase you missed this the first time around.

The Housing Matters Action Group is very pleased to invite you to our Affordable Housing Forum — Homes for Our Community on Saturday 7 September 10.00AM - 1.00PM at the Bellingen Memorial Hall. Here's a link to a segment on the local NBN TV news that gives a bit more context. 🙂 Housing forum to be held in September next month – NBN News

If you are able to join us, please use this link to register.

We understand that it may not be feasible to make the trip and we'll be making a recording of the forum available after the event. So keep a look out for that if you can't come.

I’ve included some material on the forum below and the promo poster is attached. It would be great if you could share this with your network.

Homes for our Community:

The forum will be a great chance to celebrate our local successes, plan our next steps, and get an update on our local housing system. We’re thrilled to have Alan Kohler, a renowned financial journalist, as our keynote speaker. He’ll share insights from his recent Quarterly Essay, exploring the deep-rooted issues behind Australia’s housing crisis and how it’s affecting communities like ours. His talk will inspire us to rethink our approach and consider bold steps for change.

In addition to Alan Kohler’s keynote, we’ll share an exciting update on the Waterfall Way Community Land Trust (CLT) project — a key initiative in our strategy to create sustainable, affordable housing in the Bellingen Shire, even as property prices rise. By placing land in a community trust, we’re keeping homes affordable for generations, protecting them from market pressures. Crucially, CLTs enable local people earning local wages to stay in their community, providing them with the opportunity to secure stable and affordable housing. The Waterfall Way CLT not only addresses the immediate housing needs of our community but also empowers us to take control of our housing futures.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards,

Kerry Pearse and Rose West
