I've had an enquiry from a person who is interested in the treatment
of organic waste from 300 person building through anaerobic digestion.
They seem to be inspired by the Pixel House Project in Carlton Melbourne
developed by Grocon where kitchen and bathroom waste is treated in an
anaerobic digester and the biogas is used in generators for in house use
(www.pixelbuilding.com.au).

Does anyone have a more detailed understanding of the operation of
anaerobic digester in Pixel House? Also if anyone can help my enquirer
please provide contact details which I'll forward on.

Ray, the wording of your email seems to imply that the Pixel House is
actually built and the AD system operating. The web page seems to indicate
this is a future project. Where is the project up to?

Hope you can make the Bioenergy Australia 2010 confernece!

Steve

Dear Heinz - Peter

I have forwarded your email to Nick Bishop who was the person who raised
the query in the first instance. He will no doubt get back to you.

Cheers

I caught a glimpse of the facade last week while in Melb. I can't vouch for its digestive system; although it looked a bit green in the facade, I didn't want to get too close, it wouldn't surprise me if the developers claims turned out to be odoriferous.

Hi Steve

In response to your query regarding Pixel House I contacted Grocon the
owners of the building to verify that they were using anaerobic
digestion to deal with toilet and kitchen waste and were using the
energy to provide heat for the showers. The grey water from the showers
was then used elsewhere in the building. Pretty nifty. A small step but
I expect an important one in building sustainability.

My query on the availability of an anaerobic digester to handle waste
from 300 hundred people working in an office came from a design group
based in Melbourne who specialise in sustainable buildings. Through the
Australian Biogas Group I located a couple of people for them to talk to.

Unfortunately I'm not likely to be a starter at the Conference this year
primarily because I have an offer in for a business and due diigence is
slated for December. The Conference agenda looks really good.

Ah well if everything goes according to Hoyle I'm might be in a position
to speak at next years Conference on what we are trying to achieve with
the business I'm looking at.

Cheers
