ABSEILING 10th November 2007 - Man impaled on tree, Mount Tinbeerwah,
QLD
The 27-year-old man from Toowoomba was abseiling rapidly down a 100m
cliff at Mount Tinbeerwah, near Noosa, when the accident occurred just
before 1pm. The man had abseiled quickly onto a tree branch and was
impaled. The branch entered his back, went through his abdomen and
came out near his belly button. Rescuers took an hour and used bolt
cutters to free the man who was then taken to hospital by helicopter.
The paramedic who attended the scene said that it was one of the most
difficult rescue operations he had performed in more than 16 years.
The man is recovering in Nambour Hospital from serious injuries.
