ROCK CLIMBING 24 February 2008 - Fall/ankle injury, Logan Brae. Blue
Mountains, NSW

A 31 year old man with about four years' climbing experience fell
while leading the grade 23 climb Creep Show at Logan Brae climbing
area (on the Shipley Plateau near Blackheath). The fall occurred at
about 11am, the weather was clear at the time. He was near the fourth
bolt when he had trouble finding a decent hold to hang off to clip the
bolt. After running out of energy he fell about six metres, and when
swinging back into the wall at the bottom of the fall he hit his right
foot on the cliff and badly jarred his ankle suffering a fracture and
soft tissue damage. The climber and his belayer decided they could not
walk out of the area due to the rough access track so they contacted
emergency services. Police Rescue and ambulance SCAT attended and
arranged a helicopter evacuation at about 1pm.
