Yesterday Barry Melville resigned as General Manager of the CBAA.

Barry has been on long service leave and was due to return at the end
of June. However he has now been offered a full time position at
consultants Jackson Wells Morris and has decided to take that up
effective 12 July 2008.

So this means Barry will not be returning to the CBAA.

Barry said in his letter to CBAA President Deb Welch: " It is with
considerable regret that I leave the CBAA, but it has been eleven and
a half years since I started out there and some people would say
that's long enough! Thanks very much for your support over the years
and for your enormous effort in sorting out what was a difficult
situation for the organisation and a vexing predicament for me. The
CBAA has been a wonderful place to work although the challenges have
been immense. I am leaving behind quite a different organisation to
the one I started in and I will miss the people who have worked so
hard to sustain it."

Eleven years is a very long time, and an incredible contribution, and
Barry is right, the changes have been significant in that time, with
rapid growth in station numbers and rapidly accelerating technological
change, not to mention the increase in project management activity
that meant the GM's staff supervision lead increased from around 8 to
20.

I hope you understand how difficult it can be to make a change after
so long.

Deb has thanked Barry on behalf of the sector and CBAA members, for
all of his hard work, commitment and enthusiasm, and in the next few
weeks we will be working out how we will do that on a more public
level.

In the meantime I will continue as Acting General Manager until the
end of June, and will let you know shortly about further acting
arrangements whilst we recruit a new General Manager for the CBAA.

Best regards to you all,

David
