AL DELAUNEY has put up his hand as the person whose complaint
led to Liverpool-Green Valley-Fairf'ield local radio station 2GLF
being accused of a licensing breach.
The Australian Government's Australian Communications and Media
Authority (ACAMA), found that 2GLF hadn't encouraged
community members to be part ofthe station's operation in selecting
and providing programs.
It found that 2GLF didn't provide details of the procedure for
becoming a member of the station.
It also found the station didn't provide any evidence "to substantiate
how it encouraged the community to participate in the operation of the
station".
Mr Delauney, of Liverpool, said he had sufficient experience
to be on his own local community radio station.
He said he had previously worked at a Burwood community
radio station.
"About last September I applied
to do the midnight-to-dawn shift," Mr Delauney said.
"They told me at 2GLF that the place wasn't safe and secure at night
for me to work there, and it's on a main (Hume) highway," he said.
2GLF station director Ian Becker confirmed the station didn't want
lone people working "the graveyard shift" and instead
used a free satellite feed for that timeslot.
Mr Delauney said he'd have liked to have presented a program which
included 1930s to 1990s music and interviews with authors.
"I can't understand why they won't let a local with experience do the
program," he said.
"What they're doing by this is not representing the local community
properly."
Mr Becker said 2GLF was preparing a report that the ACAMA media
manager Donald Roberston had asked the station to submit in July on
how it had rectified the breach.
When the Liverpool Leader contacted Mr Becker in late April about the
breach notice he was "shocked".
