We have just seen the most spectacular lightning from our street, lighting up a huge cloud structure and the sky.

I checked on Weatherzone and the only possible storm is about 150 k's north of us.

Some of the flashes lit the edge of the cloud like it was on fire.  The whole effect is being made better by the copious amounts of left over burn off smoke in the sky.

Everything is dripping wet outside as well, and we have had a sunny day and no rain.  It has been so humid that the raindrops from Sunday night never dried on the lawn all day, and that was lawn which had the sun on it for part of the day.

Lightning visible from here (Frenchs Forest) in cloud tops about 70 kms ESE of Sydney. Storm north of Bulahdelah   - unexpected and not forecast – between 9 & 10, Craven had 34 mm and Cabbage Tree Mtn 23 mm – so quite heavy and localized.

Thanks Don, that would have been the one.

The first big flash that we saw was so orange, we thought that it was a big explosion, the next one showed the edge of the cloud lit up like the sun can make it look sometimes, so we knew it was nothing bad.
