Hi Ken, Bussy and all,
I have just had a chance to look through my observations, having heard of the record minimum on the media.
The readings for Canberra Airport, Tuggeranong AWS and my PWS site at Gilmore North are as follows.
!st ; Canberra A/P; Min 7.4 Max 19.0
Tuggeranong AWS; Min 6.8 Max 18.5
Gilmore Nth.; Min 7.8 Max 19.4
2nd. Canberra A/P; Min -0.3 Max 21.9
Tuggeranong AWS; Min. 1.2 Max 21.9
Gilmore Nth.; Min 3.5 Max 23.2
3rd, Canberra A/P; Min 4.4
Tuggeranong AWS; Min, 3.2
Gilmore Nth; Min, 5.9
Looking at my records here since 1991 for December, our record coldest minimum was 1.3 degrees on December 27th, 2001.We have recorded six mornings at or below Monday's Minimum temperature since 1991.
I must add that we are located on the urban fringe on the northeastern side of the Tuggeranong Valley, with the summit of Gilmore Hill at 690 metres located about 500 metres to our northeast. Our elevation is 660 metres while the Airport and Tuggeranong AWS are around 560 metres, the airport on a wide plain and Tuggeranong AWS adjacent to Tuggeranong Creek, both prone to cold air drainage, which is rare or nonexistent at our location.
There was a very light WSW to SW breeze between 2-3 km /hr for the period to 0520 then calm from 0530 to 0620 with the Minimum Temperature at 0540hours.
Regards,
Gavin
