Hey Aussie Friends:
Well, Hurricane Ida--a rare November Hurricane--looks soon to strike to Gulf Coast, near the Alabama/Florida border. Question comes up as to if there have been any other November Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico: I've found a link with US States that have been impacted by Hurricanes, their dates and strength; Please see:
Map at top of page is clickable. You may care to scroll down to the heading of: States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean (also Gulf of Mexico). Hurricane names (or Unnamed) in blue, are ones you can click on for more information about that storm.
Florida was impacted by a Cat 1 (Unnamed) Hurricane on Dec. 1, 1925 (but I don't know if this was in the Gulf or the Atlantic Ocean. The Yankee Hurricane of Nov. 4, 1935 hit NE of Miami and drifted SW into the Gulf.
So, it looks like Ida is fairly rare indeed.
