First off, I want to apologize for the lack of activity via this Google group and for not keeping you all updated. Secondly, if you are getting a second email with the following information, I apologize. It took me forever to find out how to email the whole group and I ended up having to invite you all manually to the Austin Social Entrepreneurs Network that Kala and I created recently. Many of you are already members, once again sorry for the duplicate message but I hope you understand. If you are member and know someone who would benefit from joining, feel free to forward this message. Our goal is to build an online community where we can all know what is going in Austin pertaining to social innovation and social entrepreneurship.
The Austin Social Entrepreneurs
Network (ASEN) is an online social network of Social Entrepreneurs (SEs), SE consultants and SE advocates. This network is intended for socially conscious Austinite entrepreneurs, professionals and everyday people to connect, engage and become aware of what is going on in Austin in regards to social entrepreneurship/innovation. Please take a moment to sign up and share with the community what you are working on.

If you are joining the network, great! Whether you are an active Social Entrepreneur, a consultant, a fan, or just curious, we have a place for you. Kala Philo uploaded a video called "Welcome" with this information, too, so check it out if that works better for you!
Please join at a time when you have a few minutes to complete the following action items that we require from all members. This will make our social network more useful for you and other members.
1. Please upload a profile picture. It can be a picture of you, your logo, or something else that you choose that will be your "face" to the network.
2. ASEN Member Status Groups: On the groups page you will see several groups. There are two categories: Member Status (currently just 3 groups) groups and Interest Teams (all the rest).
Each member is required to join one or more of the Member Status groups as described below. The Interest Teams are optional and available for you to connect with others that share your interest, or you can start your own!
Member Status: Please self-select yourself into one or more of the following Member Status groups, described below. This will:
- help us target content more meaningfully.
- help visitors find members that offer a specific collaboration,
service or expertise.
- Please do not join a group unless its status description fits your
interest and qualifications.
ASENadvo - You
are curious and want to learn more, OR your interest is in advocacy and
possible volunteer support to further the ideas of Social
Entrepreneurship in ATX.
ASENactive -
You are working as a social entrepreneur, either full time or meaningful
part time, at a specific outwardly focused activity. You do not
necessarily have to be making a living, but it does have to represent a
significant outreach on your part. Please describe the activity and
provide a web link to it in your profile (see step 3)
ASENconsult -
You are qualified to offer professional services and engaged with
businesses and organizations on a consulting or contractual basis.
Please describe your professional background and add a link to your
business website in your profile (see step 3).
3. Please complete your basic member profile (they My Page section of the site), telling us about your interest in Social Entrepreneurship.

I would also like to share some news with you all, a Social Innovation Hub and Incubator is set to open in August near the intersection of IH 35 and 11th street. I am excited to see all the effort from our initial attempt to be so close to reality. More details are to follow.
