Hi everyone,

In this update we’d like to provide you a definition of what our purpose is, give you a brief update on what we’re working on, and explain how you can get involved.

The short answer to what we are evolving into is “an incubating platform for individuals and enterprises creating innovative solutions to social problems.” See our Overview page for more details: http://groups.google.com/group/austinsocialinnovation/web/hub-overview

Also see our Teams & Projects page to get a clearer idea of what this could translate to: http://groups.google.com/group/austinsocialinnovation/web/hub-teams-projects

The hub is currently in investigation mode: we’re researching the social innovation landscape in Austin and looking for areas where we can help. As much as we can we’re focusing on (a) avoiding competition/duplication of effort with other entities, (b) following the passion of our members and partners, and (c) focusing on high-return outcomes. We’re moving forward briskly, but also carefully.

You can get involved in a number of different ways:

·         Join or lead a Team or Project. All Teams are recruiting, including the Leadership Team. Very little can happen until people step up.

·         Improve one of our wiki pages linked on the sitemap. Many of these will become part of an “Austin Social Innovation Getting Started Guide.”

·         Recommend a website developer who can create a professional web presence for us. Ideally for free or very low cost.

Further updates can regularly be found here: http://groups.google.com/group/austinsocialinnovation/web/hub-updates. We will also on occasion send an “all member” email like this one.

If you have any ideas, comments, concerns, or the like please feel free to contact us!

Cheers,

Hub Leadership Team
