Subject: OLA (Off-Leash area) Advisory Committee info

For all the dog lovers of Austin, the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has been working with various citizen representatives of the existing OLAs (Off-Leash Areas) to create a new, citizen based, OLA Advisory Committee (OLAC).

The OLA (off-leash area) Advisory Committee should have a balanced membership reflecting persons who are interested in public parks and recreation that includes off-leash dogs and their owners.  The Committee should include, but not limited to, those who have a demonstrated working knowledge of the City’s current OLAs, educating and engaging others on responsible off-leash use, experience in positive dog behavior training, and/or in the development, funding, and implementation of improvements that support recreational sustainability of OLAs across City property.

If you are interested in serving as a liaison between the general public and PARD, please complete the on-line application (http://www.surveygizmo.com/s/179159/9mb2l) by 5pm Monday Sept 28, 2009.

The OLA Advisory Committee’s mission is to support public and sustainable recreation for off-leash dogs and their humans, through partnerships and volunteers, education, fund-raising, identifying prospective OLA sites and providing PARD with advice and counsel on new and existing OLAs.

Feel free to pass on to other dog lovers, trainers, sitters, walkers, veterinarians, vet techs, etc!
