1. Texas Supreme Court rejects GOP suit

From the Texas Tribune, August 26:

“The Texas Supreme Court on Friday rejected a Republican effort to remove a host of Libertarian candidates from the November ballot, saying the GOP did not bring their challenge soon enough.

“In a unanimous opinion, the all-GOP court did not weigh in on the merits of the challenge but said the challenge came too late in the election cycle. The Libertarian Party nominated the candidates in April, the court said, and the GOP waited until earlier this month to challenge their candidacies…”

3. Libertarian candidates news

Mark Tippetts, Libertarian for Governor, held an “Ask Me Anything” livestream on August 23. You can replay the livestream on Facebook and Twitter.

On Saturday, September 24, join Mark on South Congress in Austin to mingle with the public at the Texas Tribune Fest’s (free) Open Congress event. Mark will visit with LPComal in New Braunfels on Sunday, September 25.

Mark is purchasing 4-foot-by-8-foot signs for the campaign. A $50 donation will enable the campaign to get one of these large, dramatic signs. FYI, $5,000 will get a nice billboard! Donate here.

Steven Haskett, Libertarian for State Senate, District 14, commented on August 26: “Great presentation today by Roger Falk on the city bankruptcy level costs of Project Connect. Property tax payers prepare to be abused, the school bond proposal on this year's ballot is also crazy expensive, and needs to be defeated. Presentation notes to get your blood pressure up: Our Mobility Our Future.”

4. The Most Powerful Branch? SCOTUS Impact on Policy & Elections, August 31

From America’s Future, Texas Hub:

“Never before has the Supreme Court been more central in American life. The Court is so crucial that many voters in 2016 based their choice for president on whom they thought their candidate would nominate to the bench. In maybe its most consequential term, the Supreme Court had an arguably more impactful policy session than Congress, and with a 6-3 conservative majority, that’s likely just the tip of the iceberg.

“Join AF-Texas Hub on Wednesday, August 31, for a conversation with Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Director of Litigation Chance Weldon on the recent SCOTUS decisions, a preview of the upcoming term, and how the Supreme Court will likely determine public policy. For more information, please email sa...@americasfuture.org.”

7. What is a libertarian?

Some say libertarians are "plotting to take over the world and leave you alone."

Watch this entertaining 10-minute animation on "The Philosophy of Liberty." (English version) (Other languages)

Tomasz Kaye has created four excellent animations, "George ought to help" (4 min.), "Edgar the Exploiter" (7 min.), "You can always leave" (11.5 min.), and “Sex and Taxes” (5 min.).

Here is a 7-minute video, "What is Classical Liberalism?" from Learn Liberty.

Take this short (10 question) online quiz from the Advocates for Self-Government to see if you might have libertarian leanings: “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz.
