Texas liberty turns 50

Celebrate the milestone anniversary on and around the birthday of the affiliation by Texas to the Libertarian Party, which reached a half-century this year.

Of course Texans were among the first to jump on board the freedom train. So stay tuned and save these dates for our multi-event celebration: January 21-23, 2022.

A walk down Memory Lane…from the February, 1972 LP News:

p. 1
"During the past month, the National LP has also been active in building organizational strength. A Temporary Executive Committee, made up of leading libertarians around the country, has been formed (see p. 2). State organizations now exist in Colorado, Texas, Utah and Wyoming, with California, Michigan, Florida and New York on the verge of organizing."

p. 4.
"Texas LP leaders Keith Jones and Mike Holmes interviewed Temporary LP Chairman Dave Nolan, via telephone, on the January 20th broadcast of their weekly radio program in Houston. For 15 minutes, the three discussed the Party's Temporary Platform, the underlying philosophy, and the Party's plans for action in 1972. If there's a radio station in your area that would be interested in doing the same thing, contact them -- and LP Headquarters -- to arrange a similar interview; it's a good way of reaching potential members in your area."

7. What is a libertarian?

Some say libertarians are "plotting to take over the world and leave you alone."

This 2-minute video from Learn Liberty tells "Free Will and Human Dignity: A Love Story."

"The Conversation" is a 13-minute dramatization from the Foundation for Harmony and Prosperity.

Read this short commentary from Leonard E. Read (written in 1955): "In an ideal America."

Dr. Tom Palmer explains the libertarian principle in chapter 1 (pp. 3-12) of the 2013 book, "Why Liberty."

Take this short (10 question) online quiz from the Advocates for Self-Government to see if you might have libertarian leanings: “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz.

“When you see that trading is done, not by
consent, but by compulsion – when you see
that in order to produce, you need to obtain
permission from men who produce nothing –
when you see that money is flowing to those
who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when
you see that men get richer by graft and by
pull than by work, and your laws don't
protect you against them, but protect them
against you – when you see corruption being
rewarded and honesty becoming a self-
sacrifice – you may know that your society
is doomed.”

~ Ayn Rand
