1. Los Libertinos

LPHays Chair Steve Ravet alerted us to the existence of Carlos Abelar, host of “Los Libertinos” podcast. Carlos is an entrepreneur from westside San Antonio.

You can find the show on your podcast service and on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. Some recent guests: Matt Welch (Reason), Pete Quinones, and LPBexar Chair JR Haselhof.

2. Kost at candidate forum today, Sept. 25

Tom Kost, Libertarian for State Rep., District 46, will participate at a candidate forum today from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Austin Central Library, 710 W. Cesar Chavez, Austin. Details here.

In other libertarian candidates news:

Steven Haskett, Libertarian for State Senate, District 14, attended the “Habla y Vota” candidate forum event in Austin on September 24. Steve says, “If you live in Texas senate district 14 (Austin north of the river OR west of I-35) and you want to hang out, let me know. We can put out door hangers (thanks donors!) and meet your neighbors…”

Kenneth Welch, Libertarian for Blanco County Commissioner (Pct 4), will participate in a League of Women Voters candidate forum on Thursday, October 6 in Blanco.

Wes Benedict, campaign manager for Mark Tippetts, Libertarian for Governor, is looking for volunteers to place door hangers in their neighborhoods. How does one go about using door hangers, you ask?

3. Young Austin Libertarians, Independents & Moderates (25-35), September 26

Seen on Meetup:

“Are you tired of the current two-party system and how extreme each side can be? Do your beliefs lie in-between the political spectrum and you’d like to befriend more like-minded individuals? If so, this group is for you.

“Join us for weekly happy hours where you can sit back and relax among kindred folks without self-censorship! You don’t need to be a master of political philosophy to join. All we ask is that you bring an open-mind, a friendly spirit, and a willingness to learn from others. Let’s use this opportunity to fine-tune our beliefs through conversation.”

4. Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: 3 Practical Recommendations, October 5

From the Texas Public Policy Foundation:

“The centralized federal government was not, is not, and never will be able to address poverty in a meaningful way. There simply is no one-size-fits-all solution to poverty. Solutions have to come from the states, states who know the unique problems plaguing their citizens and who have a vested interest in implementing a policy that benefits all. Today, states have the opportunity to implement solutions to move their citizens in poverty to a life of flourishing. Join us as the CEOs of the Texas Public Policy foundation, the Georgia Center for Opportunity, and the Pelican Institute in Louisiana share their top reforms to state safety net and workforce programs that create a bridge to work a way out of poverty.”

8. What is a libertarian?

Some say libertarians are "plotting to take over the world and leave you alone."

This 2-minute video from Learn Liberty tells "Free Will and Human Dignity: A Love Story."

"The Conversation" is a 13-minute dramatization from the Foundation for Harmony and Prosperity.

Read this short commentary from Leonard E. Read (written in 1955): "In an ideal America." Mr. Read also composed the classic essay, “I, Pencil” in 1958.

Take this short (10 question) online quiz from the Advocates for Self-Government to see if you might have libertarian leanings: “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz.
