It also opens the door to a range extending trailer with a much larger
battery, maybe as large as 80kwh, 2000 pounds, and close to 300 mile
range.

Sounds neat. I've always though a small replaceable zinc air battery would be a good choice for a 15-20 mile range extension. It could be used for extra range on a long trip or if you happen to run your car to zero. You could just swap them out like regular batteries.
