Rob Swift is The Architect
Austin, TX - With turntables for tools, the illustrious Rob Swift will build a mass of Austin fans when he performs at The ND on Saturday, April 17, 2010. A former member of turntable band The X-ecutioners, he'll be cutting up tracks from his newest album,
The Architect. The concert will also stream live in HD on
PayPerViewHipHop.com and feature Stormshadow, DJ Kid Slyce, Mesanger of MSG Crew, and turntable duo That Kid Named Cee and Needlz.
Rob Swift has laid the groundwork for today's turntablists and continues to raise the artistry of turntablism with his latest full-length release. Known for stretching creativity, The Architect fuses hip hop with classical music, which produces an original masterpiece.
Michael Cusenza of
HipHopDX.com posts, "
The Architect not only is Rob Swift's best work, it's a remarkable achievement of musicianship."
Swift has been scratching since he was 12 and joined Total Eclipse, Mista Sinista, and the late Roc Raida to form The X-Men (a.k.a. X-ecutioners) in 1991. The following year, he became the DMC East Coast Champion and then went on to win the 2002 ITF Grandwizard Theodore Award. He was featured in the critically-acclaimed DJ documentary Scratch and has been invited to appear on shows such as The Late Show with David Lettermen, ESPN, and Sesame Street. He was also asked to perform at the World Economic Forum alongside Chaka Kahn and Herbie Hancock in 2002. Currently on a world-wide tour, The Architect marks his fourth solo album.
Local emcees Stormshadow and Mesanger will be rockin' the mics and DJs That Kid Named Cee and Needlz will be sampling out some Houston flavor to the crowd. The ND is located at 501 IH 35, on the corner of 5th and Brushy. Doors open at 9:30 and tickets are $10. For more information, please contact Gynae Davalos via email at
