Fellow ACAG Members,
In following last Monday's discussion on data set priorities, I would like to recommend that the City of Austin focus on helping tackle one of our area's biggest problems; transportation. As we all know, Austin leads the nation in almost every indicator except for transportation. I believe that Austin's continued success largely depends on our ability to find innovation transportation solutions for the Austin region. Because of this, I recommend that the City of Austin focus on public safety, transit and 311 data and APIs. These data set priorities would generate the most usage and interest to private developers and, in turn, be most beneficial to Austin citizens.
Open Austin has been discussing which data sets should be prioritized for a while. If you would like to read our Draft Data Set Prioritization Recommendations, check out our blog at
http://openaustin.posterous.com/data-set-priorities. I am interested in hearing the rest of the group's ideas on data set priorities. Feel free to share your ideas so that we may discuss and agree on which priorities we will recommend to the City of Austin in the near future.
Thanks,
Jace
