Yes.

She was fired by Lucy B. Johnson.

The funny thing is that she probably laughed all
the way to the bank with her contract cash-out.

Regards, Mark

She was assassinated when someone took Lady Bird seriously when she
mentioned at a station managers meeting it'd be funny to see James'
brains blown out by a 30/30.

That's not too far off actually <G>.

Rollye James, one of the most uninformed and ignorant talk show hosts in
the history of Austin radio (when it comes to local issues, NOT
national), had her contract prematurely terminated when it was suggested
on her program that Clinton and Gore be assasinated.

Given the ownership of the station (the LBJ Company) such garbage was
not tolerated.

James' history in Austin was speckled at least. Speculation in the
local paper (John Herndon's column) said that she was becoming more and
more absurd, perhaps in an effort to have the contract broken.

Some highlights of James' short and nauseating tenure in Austin....

1. The above mentioned "assassination" threat.

2. The claim that fascism was preferable to socialism. Should be
interesting to find out what Bob Dole would think of THAT one.

3. An insinuation that a local kids show host ... Jay Hodgson, known as
"Uncle Jay" in the mid 60s ... liked kids more than he should have,
shall we say. Hodgson was employed by the ownership of KLBJ radio when
the company owned KTBC TV.

Good riddance to a tumor upon the landscape of Austin radio.

I could not STAND Rollye James' show and was happy to see her go, but not
for the reasons listed below.

For the umteenth time, she did not make any "threat", nor did her
listener. A caller related the text of a bumper sticker he had seen,
which made a joke about assassinating Clinton, and James laughed at it, and
elaborated on it. She was guilty of making a joke on a subject that is
pretty universally regarded as off-limits for radio, due to the fact that
nuts are listening. What she did was unprofessional, but not a threat.

Why would that be a problem discussion? First, of course, you would have
to define terms, and since "fascism" is taken by liberals to mean any form
of government to the left of Sweden's, just that could take days. Why
could you not compare the government of, say, pre-war Italy, or Spain, or
even Germany with that of Lenin, or Stalin, or Castro. If you came to the
conclusion that fascist Spain would have been a better place to live than
Stalinist Russia (as it surely was!) would you be guilty of thought-crime?
BTW, Bob Dole says he thinks both systems are wrong and moves on to another
area, quickly.

Don't know what the "insinuation" was. Probably just a joke. Uncle Jay
used to be known more for his drinking, as I recall. Can see why Luci
Baines might get po'd about someone dissing her family's former employee,
but doubt this was anything far away from the norm in talk radio. Or TV,
for that matter -- Leno certainly gets enough mileage out of M. Jackson
child molester jokes.

Rollye James, IMO, was an irritating, unfunny host of a terrible show who
made some unprofessional decisions and probably deserved her firing, but
not for thought crime.

Sweet Jesus, have you Lib'rals no shame?
Are there no limits to the spiritual
perversion to which you dive?

Mistyping on my part. Should have put the quotes around the word
THREAT. oops....

Rollye's discussion that day boiled down to...and I am not
kidding...Nazi Germany versus "socialism". Quote, unquote. Really one
of her worse days.

Indeed it was. The same kind of "joke" that got her thrown out of
town....as indeed she may have desired.

Uncle Jay

Were I a Johnson, I wouldn't have let her on another minute after that
one.

And those aren't funny either.

Generally agreed, Gary. James was an example of all that is WRONG with
talk radio in general and KLBJ AM in particular.

I certainly hope this is sarcasm <G>.

Rollye was setup like a bowling pin, it was her own predictability that
took her down...played like a song.
Aint it cool.

Oh yeah. Firing someone because you
don't like what they said
is really cool. Here's hoping
the tables don't turn and you
end up having the epiphany necessary
to prod you into understanding the
spirit of the First Amendment.

She was such a low jerk but she really helped the sales of my "Vote
Republican, It's Easier Than Thinking" bumpersticker. If you don't
think it's work making bumperstickers then please don't e-mail me your
quirky remarks.
