I got tired of em in 2003--in Round Rock, crappy service and an onsite tech
that I threw out of my house. I went with DirectTV and SBC (now AT&T) and
have been very happy with them.

That was my original idea...... However Grande is not in the Oak Hill area,
but I keep checking..
I know I'm paying $14.00 for News.Newrazor.com.

Well, besides Grande Communications, there are some wireless broadband
providers. Depending upon where you are, your mileage will vary....

For some remote clients I've helped setup home/small-biz networks for,
I've used TexasData.net out in the hill country and far SW Austin. I
haven't done as much of that of late, but there are now a couple of
other providers in the area, too, but I haven't used them:

TX Wireless Internet - www.txwinet.com - SW Austin/Hill Country into
SE Austin
Texas Communications - www.texascom.com - Most of Travis County; N of
Austin covering RR, GT and beyond, says the tower is in Leander; also
as far S to New Braunfels.
Also, through another quick search found this site:
http://www.onelasvegas.com/wireless/wireless_ISPs_Texas.html which
lists a lot for Austin/Central TX....

I don't remember the details, but I know that TexasData used a version
that cut through heavy rainstorms, but others didn't, including
satellite services like Dish.
