So it seems that Debra left Dudley and Bob to go it alone in the
morning on KLBJ-FM. What happened?

I'll miss her; I always thought she was the best part of the show.

From what I understand Dale couldn't work with Debra anymore (for reasons
unknown to me) so he gave the station an ultimatum: it's her or me.

You guys are really funny. Anyway, this whole Debra issue matters to me about
as much as a bucket of warm sithspit. I guess I'm just not hooked into the
radio show culture.

I concur ... I gave up on KLBJ-FM's morning show when I had heard one too
many Dale whines ... they always seemed to talk about shit that didn't
*matter* very much except to themselves, on the ridiculous chance that they
might actually be PERSONALITIES instead of what they were - morning
drive-time D.J's. Play the stupid record, Dale, and shut the f*ck up. And
quit trying to be a minor-league Howard Stern with a 'tude like Don Imus.

Its the same thing that has happened to The Mix 94.7. Yack-yack. Crap
only singles in their 30's who are unmarried and have babies would care
about. Self-absorbed fluff.

Look, if you are going for the whole "Morning Zoo" schtick, at least hire
Frazier Smith to do your prep work, or study old Mark and Brian (KLOS-FM Los
Angeles 95.5) tapes, or better yet listen to The Real Don Steele or Robert
W. Morgan 93 KHJ-Los Angeles "Boss Radio" tapes for the AM riff par
excellance. That laid-back 70's stoner shit went out a LONG time ago - and
besides, Jim Ladd did it better. If you are going for the local-scene
authentico "real Austin" feel, have some local Austin guests or local Austin
bands on and play THEIR music instead of a bunch of Prozac-lacking Seattle
bands.

If you want entertainment, try Alex Jones and the Real Deal on 98.9-FM in
the evenings for gen-u-ine news and paranoia, unvarnished by polish or
pretense. That Alex is often right only makes it even more provocative.

No kidding.. of course the first assault that people always use against
Alex Jones is that he is a redneck Texas boy who is just TOO paranoid. The
government would never to anything bad to the people...

DIDN'T SAY ALL THAT MUCH! Bo and Bama were on Z-102 around or a few years
after the time that Dale (the neurotic self-absorbed) Dimwit took over KLBJ
mornings from Clark Ryan. That puts it between 6 and 10 years ago...if memory
serves.

Its funny, just before I opened the newsreader and read this thread, a
co-worker and I were talking about how our strange musical tastes developed,
and why we hadn't heard of some truly great artists until years after most of
the rest of the nation discovered them. His comment was, "well, we shouldn't
be surprised- we were both wrecked by KLBJ." And he's maybe 10 years older
than ME, so that tells you how long KLBJ has been screwing up the Austin
airwaves...

reasonable.

Speaking of Z-102 (and Buck Naked), when are these guys going to ge someone
to do the traffic report without a mouth full of marbles? Between the cheesy hick

accent and the mumbling, I can never make out a word of what he says.

Albert:

If your sample size was one or two listenings, then you have little to base
your judgement on. Alex Jones is unique among Austin media
"personalities" - he not only distills the paranoid conspiracies floating
around on the zeitgeist, but also does original research on how government
is slowly but surely strangling personal liberty, personal responsibility,
and robbing citizens of their Bill of Rights.

That he occasionally rants and raves is attributable to two things, in my
estimation: one - its his personality. The guys is off the Myers-Briggs
scale for "extrovert." Second - he reaches people on both an intellectual
and a visceral level, which training psychologists say is needed to affect
ACTION - and Alex Jones wants his viewers to take action. Alex is trying to
cleverly and effectively tart a populist groundswell without being arrested
for sedition or other trumped-up charges.

One of Alex's findings is that now, in Texas, you MUST give your fingerprint
when you get your driver's license. He has been a key gadfly to try to
disrupt this practice, including practicing civil disobedience. He is
pro-first amendment, pro-second amendment, and pro-Bill of Rights, and
unabashedly so. He ALSO is anti-racist and does not traffic in that
unfortunate unindicted co-conspirator of SOME right-wing conspiracy people,
which is that its all Z.O.G.'s fault (Zionist Occupation Government, code
words for "Jewish conspiracy."). He knows this is horseshit, and says so.
He ALSO knows that Waco and Ruby Ridge were murderous crimes that have not
seen the perpetrators brought to justice, and that this knows now
nationality, race, ethnic group, or class. Its just government bureaucracts
doing what they do best - killing people.

So, Albert (and others) ... if you don't believe there is a conspiracy to
weaken your Bill of Rights, just take a look at Dollar Bill Bradley's
proposal to register ALL handgun owners with photo-ID's ... not just new gun
buyers, as Albert Gore proposed yesterday. Take a look at the government's
constant attempts to pass an "acceptable" Communications Decency Act that
won't cause the Supreme Court to barf. Observe the continued requirement
that all 18 year old men register for the Draft .... realize that ALL of the
major television media are most certainly pro-statist, pro-government, and
anti-Bill of Rights. Then you tell me - is it conspiracy when they really
*ARE* after you?

Tell me, Albert - exactly WHEN is it "enough" reduction in your civil
liberties?

Well, hell, don't listen then. IMO, the KLBJ-FM morning show is less
annoying than the rest of the pap that just mimics the same formulaic
radio you can get in any other city.

Then again, I only have a 7 minute commute, so my drive time radio
consumption's pretty low.

Aaron Hogan, a.k.a. Buck Naked, does the traffic reports for a large number
of local Austin radio stations. While I really like his style (at least he
HAS a style in this milquetoast market :-) it would be better if he
provided more facts and details, IMHO.
