You goddamn ignorant fool. Democrats raise taxes. Republicans spend
your retirement money. Republicans are spending money like a Democrat
on crack. When Republicans say they want less government, they mean
they don't respect law and don't want to be accountable. Heil Nixon,
Heil Bush, Heil Hitler.

But, but, but... Tom Delay said there's no more pork to cut! If our government
weren't such a collective idiot, they would be able to afford to add debt
whenever we suffer a disaster, because they would have learned to create
a budget that is not systematically addicted to deficit spending. So we might
as well pile on another $100B in debt, because it will only serve to hasten
our inevitable fiscal demise by about 1 month.

You seem to imply that Bush (and Co) are the only ones who borrow to
fund spending. A few postings ago, I pointed to a CBO (Congressional
Budget Office) site which indicated in the period from 1962 to 2002,
there were only two years which did not run a deficit.
It sounds to me like BOTH parties make it a habit of "borrowing like
there's no tomorrow".
I agree that the Republicans are spending too much. Unfortunately, the
main complaint from the Democrats seems to be that the spending isn't
high enough.
As my wife says, "a pox on both their houses!"
Regards...

That makes as much sense as being happy you have a window cabin on the
Titanic. Oh yes, "stay the course" hit that iceberg. Americans
deserve the government they tolerate. Their government is no more
honest than they are.
Try re-reading what you originally posted mapi.....there have beens some
changes....sheesh...do I have to do everything....

Our national debt is getting very bad.. Inflation and devaluation of
the dollar will follow.
I'd rather see Bush's tax cuts go away and pay now. Heck, raise them
above the level pre-Bush. Politically, it'll never sell - but fiscal
resonsibility will be a reality one day, unfortunately it will probably
be spurred by a major national crisis.
Raise my taxes, but pay DOWN our debt. Payment of our national debt
means more money in everyone's pocket long term.
Absolutely. But you know how Clinton was hated while he was trying to
pay it down. And as soon as Bush took over, he "gave back" the surplus
to the wealthy.

If somebody has to pay, how about the people who have a direct financial
stake? The businesses and individuals who need it rebuilt? And if they can't
afford it, and can't justify borrowing enough money to pay for it, then how
can you justify forcing others to pay for it?

It is because of Clinton's appeasement policies that we are paying
through the nose now. You libs sure have a conveniently short memory.
JT
Yes, the rebuilding should be a local effort except for interstate
commerce infrastructure. Imagine if we were to bail everyone out when
the least little thing comes along. We are on a path to exactly that..
JT
Does it matter to you that even with the tax cuts, total federal receipts
for 2005 will be the highest in history? Can you countenance the possibility
that merely reducing spending would be enough to eliminate the deficit?
Nonsense. There was no appeasement. There were a few attempts to
get something done that were blocked by the Republican Congress, though.

Then how did the republicans get into office?
With an ever increasing deficit, we're all screwed. We're talking
about the 1930s all over again.
