Hello all,
Has anyone else noticed the missing Show World from the paper? After
the second week, I called in and while on hold the message stated that
the Show world is discontinued. How could they discontinue the TV
guide? If anyone wants to write to them I have sent messages to them
at:

circulation AT statesman DOT com
gdinges AT statesman DOT com (entertainment editor)
tlott AT statesman DOT com (general manager)

I think it's an awful shame that with all the useless content in the
paper they decide to delete something as important as a TV guide. Not
everyone has TWC interactive TV guide and even so, I like to look over
the week to see what's on.

Write them, lets get the TV guide back!

They explained it in last Sunday's paper: too much information, not
enough advertising. They say not enough people use it to justify the
cost, so they'll put more TV listings in the daily papers instead.

Why doesn't Time-Warner Cable provide one to subscribers? Maybe that's
the place to start (and good luck with those guys!).

I suppose no one here has heard of tvguide.com? It'll provide you will
all channel listings, whether or not you have: cable, satellite, or
broadcast!

indeed, http://tvguide.com is very useful. Not only can you customize
it to your location and tv source (cable, dish, or over the air), you
can view just your 'favorite' channels' listings.

Yes, the online stuff is great but what about the older folks who
don't use the computer? I finally got a reply from the editor and of
course he gave me a list of things people can do to get the TV
listings, but that STILL doesn't help those who are not computer
savvy. As for the having it in the daily paper, that doesn't help me
either as I take only the weekend paper. I like to look at the
schedule for the week and pick what I want to see or set it on the
DVR...I hope enough people let them know they want it and get it back
at least for the sake of people who don't use the internet..

Absolutely..But unless i want to sit there and go through every day,
which is a pain I only see what is on right then..Plus with the TV
guide it has write ups on the movies and shows, right there on one
page. My point was not everyone has a DVR but it appears the paper
thinks so..Even with the technology at hand, it's still nice to have
it to read. hell they can take out the sports section for all I
care..I get all that I need on ABC news! :-)

Yeah, I've heard of it and I've used it (mostly for advance NFL
listings) -- but my point is, TWC is providing the product (at an
extortionate rate), and won't even provide a users' guide. Maybe it's
their responsibility, and not the newspaper or some third-party web
site, to inform viewers of the schedule.

I completely agree, I can look up TV guide but my husband cannot. My
best friend cannot. She is 65. Some people indeed do not have a
computer
This is discrimination against the elderly in it's most obvious
form...the motive...money.
Shoot, I throw everything but the show world, the crossword and the
front page in
the trash. I don't want all those awful slippery ad sheets. The daily
paper has only
the "prime time: listings. AARP should file suit.
P.S. How do we let them know? I saw an physical address but not a URL.

Again selfish one, the elderly and not computer literate have no
access to
a TV Guide, are they meant to go out and get a computer. But you are
right
it is TWC's responsibility, but try dealing with them! LOL

@e10g2000prf.googlegroups.com:

Yah, they're fucking nuts.

I got the sunday paper for years mainly for the TV guide.

All the other "guides" online are full of spam, make you register, don't
work well, have bad interfaces and just won't fucking tell you what is on
tonight or during the week at a glance.

When I first got it, years ago, it was full of interesting tv stuff,
trivia, facts, synopsis of shows, the Nielsen ratings of the top 50 shows
each week.
It was fun and informative to see a show go from high to low, and it told
me not to bother continue watching it becuase it was definitely going to be
cancelled.
Or, vice versa.

A couple of shows were like that. I'd watch it, check the ratings, ratings
good, especially serielized shows that you invest a lot of time in, then
watch them from then on confident the rug wasn't going to be pulled out
from me after wasting 5 or 8 hours watching them.

It enfuriates me when a show or someone talking is showing/telling you
something interesting, then says

"to find out more information on this, go to our fucking website, register
your fucking name, goddamn home address, valid email so we can spam you to
death and charge our popup sneaky ads that put shit onto your computer
without you knowing it advertisers and we can make a ton of money in an
underhanded sneaky way on your ass."

I hate corporate greed. It's not so bad if the shareholders got anything
from their billions in greedy riches, but the CEOs, board members,
congressmen and politicians get all the money (remember Hillary selling her
shares she bought for $1,000 and sold for $100,000 a few months later, on
inside information?).

Houston Comcast, formerly TW, does indeed furnish a printed monthly
guide. An extra charge for it, of course.

and no numbers for the channels plus expensive!!! The Show World IS
available in other newspapers around the country!!! The Austin paper
seems to want to make it's product less valuable as a business
model????
