Just wondering where the best tasting Enchiladas can be found in Austin,
and I don't mean the fast-food type.

Thanks,

Jimmy

There are some great enchiladas in town. You're going to get a variety
of answers.

My favorite is the Enchiladas Banderas at Manuel's. It's served with
three sauces, and your choice of fillings; I pick pork, which is somewhat
unusual for Austin.

News Flash! Great San Antonio-style cheese enchiladas at the new
restaurant on E. 7th: El Mercado Juarez. They fry up their own chips
too.

I like Mexico Tipico on east 6th. Service aint that great, but the food
makes up for it.

Hi Linda,

What constitutes San Antonio style cheese enchaladas? I know there
are loads of restaurants east of the I-35....my favorite is Nuevo Leon.
I like Enchaladas Verdes best personally. Anybody here remember
Carmen's La Tapatia? Great for cultural education and decent food as
well. Gone but not forgotten. I have also noticed a huge collection of
what appear to be very authentic Mexican restaurants around south 1st,
south of Oltorf....and there's always El Gallo del Sur.

The old Casa Daniel on Jollyville that Linda refers to below is actually
Antonio's.In my opinion Antonio's serves the best Tex-Mex for your buck
overall. They're enchiladas are great. Watch out for the Margaritas though,
they're the best in town, but their lethal. I've been told that Antonio's
has been around forever and have another location up north, but I've never
been there. Let me know if anyone knows where it is.

They are not the same. A couple named Ray & Tina owned Casa Daniel and
I believe it was her uncle that cooked and he was originally at the old
El Matt's. I used to go to the original Antonios when it was at Braker
& N. Lamar. Food is similar.

There is no connection between Antonio's in Wells Branch and
Casa Daniel on Jollyville.

Antonio's started out in a house on far North Lamar that was converted
to a restaurant. I don't remember exactly when the house burned to
the ground. I do remember eating there as recently as 1983. After
the North Lamar location burned down, Antonio's re-opened in the
present Wells Branch Location.

Casa Daniel came into being around 1977 - long after Antonio's had
become a landmark.

I didn't know Casa Daniel went belly-up. It is a bit off of
the beaten path for me now that I live at Lake Bastrop rather
than in Pflugerville. Since Antonio's opened a second eatery in
the old Casa Daniel location, I can see where the confusion comes
from. I liked Casa Daniel.
