Our first meeting last week went really well.  We talked about how we want to cover the content of the book, worked out some of the Live Meeting issues and had a really good discussion about general Agile practices.

We decided that we would cover all of the chapters in order.  For the next meeting, we'll talk about chapters 1,2 & 3.  We use the content in the book for topics to further discuss, so don't be surprised if we get off topic.  Also, there is no timeline for covering the content, so we'll just start up the next meeting where we left off.

The Live Meeting part worked pretty well, for our first try, we'll get better and better at that.  I would recommend having headphones and a mic so that you can be part of the discussion.  If you're only available via chat, we'll do our best to make sure you are involved in the discussion but the chat window is definitely not the best medium for discussion.  We will also have a conference phone bridge available to get a higher fidelity sound.  Don't know if this will be toll free or not, still working out the kinks.

I think that is about it.  Participants, feel free to add your thoughts on this thread.

Thanks,
John

Are we going to be meeting every other week?

Greetings all...

Where can I read up about the "zen" of this group.  I'd really like to avoid having to read every previous post.

Is this a virtual book club? or a real one that meets in person?
If I wanted to join would you let an Iowan join?

Basically I'm looking to grow my knowledge with some other like-minded people and need someone to catch me up with this group.

Tim

Zach, yes we are meeting every other Thursday, so the next one will be Dec 4. We'll play it by ear during the holidays, but I will assume no one wants to meet on Jan 1.

Tim,
I don't know if we have defined our Zen yet :)  Right now we are covering Robert Martin's Agile Principles, Patterns and Practices in C#.  We're just getting started, covering the first three chapters next week.

We use the content of the book for conversations starters as much as content coverage.  Other than that we play it pretty loose.  I'll post each week a reminder with the live meeting details.

BTW.  Is anyone getting the [austin-tech-book-club] subject header on their messages?  I set it up this way, but doesn't seem to be working for me.  Is anyone else experiencing this.  If anyone has some experience setting the group features, please take a look.  Everyone should be admins.

Thanks,
John
