Off Topic: Hobbyist Electronics

Someone was talking about getting into hobbyist electronics.  I mentioned http://www.nerdkits.com/ as one source of a full set kit along with getting started information, and a community which (back when I was messing around with that stuff myself) is pretty receptive to beginner questions.  (Ahhhh... Longing looks into a drawer next to me with all my "junk".)

The Arduino rig is also another good way to jump into things.
