The trouble with having a big toolbox is that some of the tools get used all the time, and they stay on the top of the pile. But sometimes the perfect tool for the job is the one hiding in the bottom corner of the toolbox. The same is true of the Ruby core. Tonight we'll dump the toolbox onto the table and rummage around. We'll look at some very useful methods in Array, Hash, IO, Enum, and elsewhere -- methods that may not be used very often and may be unknown or forgotten.

Hal Fulton has two degrees in computer science and more years of experience than he will admit to. He has used Ruby since 1999 and is the author of _TheRuby Way_. He is obsessively interested in way too many things, including music, art, space travel, theater, and torturing people with bad puns. He is an Austinite currently living in exile in Fort Worth, and has an imaginary friend named Nola Stowe.
