PLEASE update your rsvp on the meetup page http://www.meetup.com/austinrb/events/219671348/  so we have enough chairs, We will be meeting in one of the smaller conference rooms, ask receptionist when you walk in to direct you!

If you have something cool about ruby to show or a question, we'll do that before the code kata.

Ruby plays to many programming paradigms.  It's an object-oriented language that can be used in a functional or an imperative/procedural way.  But Ruby does not often get used as a logic programming language.  In this talk I'll explore logic programming using Ruby.  What is it, and is it a tool you want to add to your toolbox?  We'll touch on several libraries, we'll primary look at an implementation of minikanren (http://minikanren.org/) for Ruby.

Norman Richards is a developer at ThreatGRID, where he uses the core.logic (a minikanren implementation in Clojure) for malware analysis.  He's the co-organizer of the Austin Clojure Meetup and is considering organizing a logic programming meetup if there is sufficient interest.

After the talk we'll talk about cool things we learned and ruby questions, followed by a code kata.

Sponsors for drinks after is Momentum Factor, thanks! :)

PLEASE update your rsvp here since we'll be in one of the smaller rooms http://www.meetup.com/austinrb/events/219671348/   :) :) :) :) :)

Hello Austin Ruby/Rails Community

I'm searching for advice on learning Ruby on Rails in order to transition a web site from ColdFusion to RoR. I'm mainly looking for a bootcamp-like experience...somewhere I can go and focus on learning full time in a classroom setting. I am also interested in on-line resources (eg: lynda.com) as well as general migration advice.

BTW, I will need the assistance of at least one experienced RoR developer for the actual migration. When funding and deadlines are finalized I will post information here as well as announce as the Meetup. If anyone is interested in learning more now I'm happy to discuss.

Thanks,

Eric Leversen

Hello Rails Community:

I have a question about how much people are paying to host Rails sites? We’re going to transition a couple sites to Rails and I’d like to get some ball park numbers for the accountant.

We currently host the sites at Hosting.com since they are excellent with ColdFusion and I find their support to be very good, with a couple of exceptions.
Current specs which are fine for our needs:
• Type: Enterprise
• OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
• Hard Drive: 80 GB
• CPU: 4 vCPU
• RAM: 8 GB
* DB: MS SQL

We have periods of customers placing credit card orders followed by long periods of low usage. 200 orders per day would be a high traffic day.

So…would anyone like to share what they’re paying? Or point me in the direction of where I could find general info on this?

What hosts do you recommend?

Thanks,
Eric
