Ted’s idea of a long-overdue meet/drive is a great one (not that his other ideas aren’t great, too)!

Let us know who’s interested, & we’ll start looking at weekend dates.

Subject: [Austin GT-R] Steelie Mount 4 Phone or A/P Port

Hey car nutz,  Just got back from TX2K14, met Ahmed Nabi the H-Town GT-R Group Organizer.  Very cool guy, gave me this Steelie Mount for my GT-R.  The Base is a Steel Ball and the Attachment is a very strong magnet.  It is really hard to pull them apart and it slides very easy, great design.  Was wondering if anyone is interested in this.  He said he would discount it for GT-R group + Group Buy Price if we got enough people.  I am going to buy another one so I can mount My Cell Phone  +  Cobb Accessport.   I know some of you have mounts, if ur not happy try this out.   He said they retail at $40, and I don't know what out price will be till I get a count.

I know Khib + Greigh  know him + some of you that went to the NISMO event at COTA.

Let's plan to do a drive soon, weather is getting nice, sun is out later.  Let me know if you are interested in this mount and a weekend in April you can go for a drive.  I want to get 10 GT-R's, I told Ahmed I got discouraged because we don't get good turn outs.  I know you guys stay busy to pay for that fast ass car, but TX2K reminded me that getting together with friends is the best part of it.  I'll put it together, if there are 8 to 10 GT-Rs interested.  I can bring in other cars too.

Oh yeah, there is going to be a TX2K14 "Redo"  in May 2014.  Talk to Peter yesterday.  The dates are not set 100% yet, should be
soon.

Thanks

Ted,
Yes we have a house there so in there twice a month, but I have only driven the GTR twice it a little uncomfortable for a 4 hour drive. If this fits into my schedule I will definitely be there. Another idea would get Anson from viva up to do a detail. He did my S65 a few months ago and love his work.

Thanks

I saw Anson at TX2K14 LoL,   Yes,  He does exceptional work.  He will come to Austin if he had 3 or 4 cars lined up to detail.  He does that frequently.

Lets take a poll, give me the dates (Saturday or Sunday)
or weekends you can make in April.    We had 7 people (out of 40) reply back so far.  I'll start giving them priority for replying back so fast.  Once we have the date, I'll start working on the event.

It's only going to be 1 Day guys, come on.

Sam Patel, I am calling you and your 1800 original mile,   2009 GT-R out for a ride.  Can't let that car sit and not drive it.
Nissan will probably want to put it in a museum but you have like 20 more years.

Daniel Chen--Maybe out of the country

Dave Crooke--You owe us a day of your time, and if we race Karts, I definitely want a chance to put you in the wall, LoL

Zohair--we talk at TX2K14 bout getting together for lunch.  Bring Wonder Woman with you.

Thank god she loves the gtr. A true story she taught it was eclipse , ouch. Haha. Almost didn't propose cause of that gaffe.
I will be up in Chicago for the wedding.  And if you know anything about Indian weddings - it's like a 5 day event. Lol
Come up with the dates in April and I will make it if I'm in town. We have our honeymoon and still have to hold the fort down at the office somehow.

I've done that drive many times. It's nice, although there are better roads west of Blanco.

Since I'm a Harris Hill member, I may want to actually spend some time on the track/giving rides, etc., but I'm flexible...

I've always thought they'd be great highway patrol cars, due to stability at high speed ... you can pull the Gilles Villeneuve "I'll think of something" trick.

I had cause to test this on 290 once, when a redneck who objected to being overtaken despite his attempts to block me (why do people do this?) tried to ram me with his pickup. Figuring he likely had a gun, and given he didn't seem to care about an attempted vehicular manslaughter charge, I hauled it big style most of the way from Giddings to Elgin until I found a cop at the roadside and stopped. He told me someone had called 911 to report a Porsche travelling at intergalactic speed (I pointed out that a GT-R is nothing like a 911) and asked me how fast I was going, after assuring me I would not be charged.

I offered him the comment "faster than the top speed of a Silverado Z71", the truth was around a 140 average.

The worst thing was having to go all the way into the slow lane on the other side of the road to avoid the pickup initially - there was an old lady coming the other way in a land yacht and at one point I was facing her in her lane with a closing speed around 180mph and maybe half a mile gap (10 seconds) .... I was totally in control at that point but I'm sure it scared her a lot. I really wanted to send her flowers but the cops were unable to track her down.

I also felt bad for the cop, one witness who stopped was a bus driver on the way to a high school trip, and the 20 or so helicopter soccer moms trailing behind in SUVs all stopped to pester him. The cop had stopped to help a lady change a wheel, and I brought half of Montrose down on him

I laugh about it, but it was decidedly unfunny at the time.

Cheers
Dave

“Silverado Z71 vs. GT-R ?  Next time, Fake Left and Go Right” – haha, reminds me…Greigh & I had a friend who went to rodeo clown school. They were taught to fake a charging bull by faking one direction, then going the opposite as the bull will always take the first fake. When it came our friend’s turn, he faked, and then faked again, so the bull got him. He gave up being a rodeo clown, and now writes for Texas Monthly.

FWIW – BMWCCA is running at COTA today-Sunday. There are 4 GT-Rs out there today from as far as NY, one a total track build. If you want to go watch, all you need to do is sign in at the gate.

Regards,

LoL, all these stories coming a pic.  Note 2 Self, Don't ever use a Double Fake on a Charging Bull, Love It.

Speaking of going fast, I just got back from the Texas Mile event yesterday.  I didn't see any Silverado Z71s racing but there were 3 other GT-Rs here (didn't recognize any of them). FYI that airport runway is ridiculously bumpy.

Quick video I made of my second pass:

Good run Jason. Was that your ~202 mph run? I stopped by for a couple hours in the morning and was disappointed that most of the heavy shooters (AMS, SSP, etc) weren't there. The other GTRs I saw run in the morning looked to be stock '13 or '14 BEs since they ran 168-172ish. This was my 3rd time going as a spectator and that event is truly becoming the CTS-V, Vette and Mustang show! But it was refreshing to see a GT3 RS and Aventador.

Hey Tre, I only made two passes (my required <165mph pass and then the <199mph pass) but I doubt I could get much faster than this if I were to try again with my current setup. I honestly got a little bored waiting 2+ hours in between runs. And you're right, I can only stand looking at (and listening to) Camaros and Vettes for so long. There was one black GTR from T1 that did 210mph. The event is worth going to at least once to get the speed craving out in a safe location.

Yeah, I agree.  that run way has dips in ALL the wrong places.  Look up the video of AMS going +200 hitting a dip @ the time of the chute coming out.  Amazing recovery driving.  That run is too dangerous.  I am hoping Houston Mile @ Ellington Field will go through.

We have stopped going due to safety concerns… I would love to run the Houston Mile at Ellington when/if it happens next.
