I know Chase asked about Sunday being a good day at Spider House.
Unfortunately, I didn't think deeply enough about it.

What I should have asked was whether Saturday is at all an option. Sunday's
aren't impossible for me, but I'm much more flexible on Saturdays.

Any thoughts? I think Chase mentioned meeting in another two weeks?

Satudays are fairly equivalent to Sundays me, so I'd be open to that.  I have two small children who take naps mid-day, so that 2pm that time frame fits fairly well.  1pm might be even better!

Yesterday's meeting was a lot of fun and I felt like we covered a lot of good topics in a loose but effective manner.  I'd encourage anyone lurking on the email list to feel welcome to join us in the future - I didn't notice any egos yesterday.  We just had people who were excited to be able to converse with others who had a common interest in functional programming!

And then Sean said, "Murmur, murmur, excuses, excuses...."

I'll make it out (Scout's honor!), but 1pm on a Saturday is just
horrible for those of us who have no dependents and can do silly stuff
like ride bikes all day. Until mid-June, at least, when my "big race"
is come-and-gone.

Thursday evenings?  Saturday evenings?

The trick here is to get a regular schedule going with sufficient
interest that includes mixers like yesterday, and also includes other
meetups that might include more specialized topics. A lot of topics
were briefly discussed yesterday (monads in F#, Scala's type system,
continuation passing style, embedded languages, concurrency with
monads), and it would be nice to have something on the calendar for a
deeper dive into some of these topics. I believe the pointer Sukant
sent out yesterday was an excellent start (thanks Sukant!). Some of
the content included is classic (even fundamental?) in FP, and with
the exception of a couple of topics (e.g. Arrows) could be accessible
to most audiences.

I propose we move the mixer to the first Saturday of the month (making
the next one 6/5). Separately, I would like to have a topic
discussion. I am open to doing these on a different day whether it is
Thursday evenings, or over a lunch and learn type session.
Thoughts?

I will send out a note proposing some papers and topics in the next
few days. Please feel free to share more if you have them.

Thanks,
Chance

Chance,

This sounds good to me. I'm especially interested in getting my hands on
some papers.

I like the first Saturday of the month idea for the mixer. And for the
separate topic discussion,
I vote for early Thursday evening (6 - 7ish). I would also be open to a
lunch meeting, but
the Agile ATX lunch discussion group meets twice a month on Thursday as
well and I know
a lot of people like to go to that. If we could squeeze in lunch
discussion groups in between
when the Agile ATX folks meet up, that would be great (speaking for
myself here).

My two cents.
