"Daigh leaves behind $5 billion of roads, few enemies
Austin district engineer leaving TxDOT after six-year blitz of building that included 77 miles of tollways and, finally, solid plans to finish that Ben White/I-35 interchange."

"... Bob Daigh spent the past six years as Central Texas' roadbuilder in chief, a period of unprecedented highway construction and tollway trauma.
At age 54, with 22 years at the Texas Department of Transportation, Daigh is stepping down April 30 as district engineer for the 11-county Austin region...."

I've heard his name come up over the last few years among bicycle advocates.  The terms were often negative.

Thanks, Robin and others for your thoughts on this.

I hesitated to mention the opinions I've heard over the last few years, since my knowledge is spotty.  It was my attempt to summarize what I've heard and read in the AAS, some of it unfavorable to bicyclists.  I also wanted to suggest that people here weigh in on him.

We have worked with Bob Daigh since he arrived six years ago.  He has been one of the best of the 25 TxDOT District Engineers for bicycles.

Bob Daigh was much more receptive to bicycles than his predecessor.  Bob worked with BikeTexas to set aside 49 miles of bike path right of way along SH 130.

He encouraged his staff to reach out and work constructively with the cycling community, including the Mayor’s Task Force and Old Texas 20 (the 180 bike route to Houston that BikeTexas been working on).

We will miss him.
