The City of Austin is continuing to build out pedestrian and bikeway crossing improvements along Kramer Lane between Braker Lane and North Lamar Boulevard. This project follows improvements made on Kramer Lane between Burnet Road and Braker Lane earlier this year.

New protected bike lanes and pedestrian crossing improvements will be installed along Kramer Lane from Braker Lane to North Lamar Boulevard following pavement resurfacing.

The changes are expected to improve safety and comfort for people walking and bicycling along and across Kramer Lane, as well as offer a safer street for everyone.

PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS

  • New buffered and protected bike lanes on both sides of the street
  • Concrete pedestrian crossing island and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at McBee Elementary School
  • Nine pedestrian crossing islands
  • Modification of the slip lane at Braker Lane to a “smart right” design for safer turns

There will be minor modifications to the lane configurations at the intersections of Kramer Lane with Parkfield Drive and North Lamar Boulevard. Existing bike lanes on Parkfield Drive will be extended through the intersection of Kramer Lane.

Parkfield Drive will have a left-turn lane and a thru-right lane in each direction at its intersection with Kramer Lane. At the approach to North Lamar Boulevard from Kramer Lane, a left and through lane and a right-turn-only lane will be provided.

Roadway resurfacing is expected to begin later this summer. New signs and markings, along with the construction of the RRFB crossing, will come in the following weeks. Streets will remain open during construction. All work is dependent on weather and any other unanticipated delays.
