Is anyone on the BAC or PAC looking at the ASMP updates? Looks like some roadways are being proposed for expansion (i.e. more lanes). There are also some good proposals
The Public Feedback map will remain open until January 30, 2022.

Thanks, Kimberly, for the reply.

Airport Blvd. is proposed for upgrade from a multimodal, multi-lane urban road (Level 3) to a regional highway (Level 4). It's already a deadly barrier to human movement.

Recently the City of Austin placed a "pedestrians prohibited" sign at the location of a legal Airport Blvd. crossing, in response to someone getting killed trying to cross. There is a PHB due for the location, which has been requested and proposed for over 10 years, before the street into Mueller was even built.

I think the ASMP update is intended to codify Airport Blvd. as an even stronger barrier to people walking and bicycling, rather than honoring the Airport Blvd. corridor plan and rather than facilitating walking, bicycling, and transit use. I was very surprised to see it.

I'm hoping that BAC and PAC leadership can still take a closer look at these proposed roadway upgrades and expansions before they get codified.

I thought PAC had commented already but I may be wrong. DANA is looking at it too.

To find whether it’s an upgrade or downgrade, it seems like you have to open the current ASMP map separately.

For Airport Blvd… I later noticed a helpful change for Airport Blvd. They are also proposing reducing the number of lanes from 6 to 4 between Manor Road and I-35. That would reduce the outlier maximum speeds, plus help reduce the number of fatalities and serious injury collisions there. It would also match Airport Blvd.'s roadway capacity to the north and south (both 4 lanes), so it would have negligible effect on car capacity and trip times.

Thanks for the post, Tom. I looked at the ASMP proposed changes earlier and again today, but I find it hard to read. The streets are not named, so you have to look at another map or know what the street is. Also, they don't identify what the change is that I can see, i.e. from Level 3 to 4, etc., or why the change is being made. It is also not clear to me if they are trying to accurately label existing conditions, or if they are upgrading certain streets to allow for more and faster traffic. They are asking the public to comment without providing enough information.

If you or anyone else has additional helpful input about the proposed changes, like the comment on Airport Blvd., please post it here so everyone can benefit from it.
