CRAM Seminar: Panel discussion with the Ngangkari Traditional Healers of Central Australia

Tuesday 3 March, 11am-12:30pm

Arts West, Interactive Cinema Space, Room 353

University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus

Join us for a panel discussion with the Ngangkari Traditional Healers of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Lands, to mark the new edition of their award-winning book.

Ngangkari are senior Aboriginal people authorised to speak publicly about Anangu (Western Desert language speaking Aboriginal people) culture and practices. The ngangkari currently employed at NPY Women's Council deliver treatments to people across a tri-state region of about 350,000 sq km, in more than 25 communities in SA, WA and NT. Acknowledged, respected and accepted, these ngangkari work collaboratively with hospitals and health professionals even beyond this region, working hand in hand with Western medical practitioners.

This event will hold appeal for all those interested in the critical interrogation of settler-colonial relations, decolonising healthcare, as well as the theory and history of the archive.

Hosted by the Critical Research Association Melbourne (CRAM). Any questions, contact @Jessica Marian.
