Hi guys,

In the next few weeks, further exit numbering will be installed on the Bruce Highway from Pine River to beyond Cooroy. The numbers are as follows...

130 - Dohles Rocks Road
133 - Anzac Avenue
138 - Boundary Road
142 - Deception Bay Road
146 - Morayfield Road
150 - Buchanan Road
152 - Split interchange at Bribie Island Road/Lower King Street/D'Aguilar Highway
157 - Pumicestone Road
163 - Steve Irwin Way
171 - Johnson Road
188 - Steve Irwin Way/Caloundra Road
190 - Frizzo Road/Pignata Road
194 - Sunshine Motorway
200 - Chevallum Road/Mons Road
201 - Nambour Connection Road/Maroochydore Road
208 - Nambour Bli Bli road
210 - Nambour Connection Road at Palmwoods
215 - Yandina Coolum Road
224 - Split interchange at Emundi
230 - Split interchange at Cooroy - i.e. EXIT 230 for northbound traffic is Cooroy Connection Road, EXIT 230A for southbound traffic is Elm Street and EXIT 230B for southbound traffic is Cooroy Connection Road. Exit 230A will probably be closed as part of Bruce Highway upgrade from Cooroy to Curra

The most interesting thing out of these allocations is that the Emundi interchanges and the Cooroy interchanges have the same number...

Interesting Sam, thanks for the tip!  Presuming they keep the same regime going, we could end up with some pretty high exit numbers when it’s freeway all the way to Rockhampton!

The split interchanges you mention with the same number – that’s crazy!  Especially with the Cooroy interchange it must be 2-3 km between the two parts – surely it would be better to keep with the naming regime and allocate them different numbers!

While we’re talking about this – I am amazed how absolutely no-one I talk to (outside of this group) knows why the exit numbers are what they are – is there going to be any education?

Oh – seeing I am asking questions, is there any hope of renumbering the interchanges on the Pacific Mwy to comply?

Phillip

Exit numbers are used frequently on the Gold Coast, this is the result
of an extensive marketing campaign by Main Roads in 2000. Every
household was sent a booklet explaining the system. Nothing like that
happened in Brisbane or on the Sunshine Coast.

Yes - and they are so widely used in advertising etc, that its probably
impossible to change them now. It would be like Melways moving Map 64!

No way! Bayswater's always been on Map 64!

LOL!

(Is it sad or deranged that I know this from memory)

There is precedent on this side of the ocean. The Pennsylvania Turnpike
recently changed exit numbers from sequential to mile-based after 50-60
years in the old system. With a limited number of exits and most of the
economy of central Pennsylvania clustered around them, you can imagine
how widely known these exit numbers were. Well, you still see a few
references to the old system, but people managed to get by with "Old
Exit 9" signs and a lot of patched billboards. It can be done!

It can be done, I agree, but our politicians definitely have no balls.

One business in southern Brisbane has gone so far as to include the
nearest exit number in its name... I'd like to see them change it to
OC Outlets @ Old Exit 35 :)
