Didn't see many Queensland related posts here so I thought I'd just open a discussion.
Anyway, I just wanted to see whether it would be a good idea to duplicate the Bruce Highway all the way to Cairns and a quicker route from the Ipswich Motorway to Bruce Highway through Brisbane. Also got the thought that the Warrego between Brisbane and Toowoomba should not have level intersections.

I wonder if funding for some proper upgrades to the Bruce will go through after the completion of the Pacific Highway Upgrade. They really need to duplicate north to AT LEAST Maryborough. Seems they're only currently interested in bridge replacements and mere widening works.
As far as I know Section A of the Cooroy to Curra Upgrade is now completed, but I haven't at the time of writing seen any announcements regarding this. Section C looks well onto completion and is progressing rapidly compared to the rather prolonged Section A. Really don't get why duplicating the Cooroy Bypass has taken so long as the new section north of there has been open for a year now.
I think the western Brisbane bypass has been off the table for quite some time now. Sad really, not just because it would provide obvious significant benefits to traffic, but looking at a map of Brisbane.... It just seems that a road SHOULD be there.
Other than that, not many new projects have begun up here, but a few current ones are progressing well. I visited the Gateway Motorway North Upgrade project office recently (they had a few old opening plaques on display) and the lady there told me that they hoped to have the project completed by the end of the year, way ahead of the announced late 2018 date.
The new Boundary Road overpass at Narangba has opened to traffic, and work is now underway on the final ramp configurations and pedestrian walkways.
Can't wait to see some of these newly-mooted projects come to fruition, especially the big upgrade to finally remove the Beattie Choke and the upgrade of Ipswich Motorway at Darra. There's definitely some good stuff on the way.
The Mackay bypass is going ahead but it won't be a full freeway - there's not enough bypassable traffic to justify that yet.

Concept Plans available here:
The bypass of Walkerston on Peak Downs Highway will connect directly into the Ring Road at Stock Route Road, so that will be a significant benefit for users of that corridor.

My two cents worth re Bruce Highway duplication (agree that with the Pacific upgrade nearing completion (sort of) the Bruce should be the next big federal road infrastructure project...certainly traffic volumes along much of its length warrant this).
Ideally dual carriageways (and grade separation of major intersections) at:
*Sarina to Proserpine (Airlie Beach turn-off) with full freeway/motorway flood free bypass of Mackay.
