Is this a car for the Governor General or when members of the Royal
Family are in Australia?

It was seen in Melbourne today. Just wondering who it could've been
carrying! :)

Wikipedia suggests it's the Governor-General's car.

Could also have been the State Governor's car. I see a car with such a
plate all the time on George Street (which is where all of
Queensland's major state government buildings are). Including
yesterday outside the Executive Building at George & Mary, where
Cabinet meets and many State Ministers have their offices.

Speaking of unusual plates, I saw this car with actual European plates in the Blue Mountains. The sticker on the top says left hand drive. Has anyone else seen plates from a different country in Australia?

Hi Winston

I have seen NZ plates at least 4 times in Australia in the past 5 years. I also saw UK plates on an MG convertible on ANZAC Bridge when I still lived in Sydney.

Attached is a car with NZ plates that I saw in Bunbury WA in 2008.

I"ve seen one car with NZ plates, one car with UK plates, and one car
with Hungarian plates. Yes. Hungary. It looked like a rally car of
some sort, driving down Lutwyche Road in 2007.

I can't see Winston's photos; can somebody please forward them to me?
Thanks in advance.

The Governor-General has two types of car. One is a ceremonial Rolls
Royce Phantom, which is this car (apologies for the image being
sideways):
http://aussie-highways.googlegroups.com/web/P1050916.JPG
The other one is a more utilitarian car (still a luxury model) - it's
either a Mercedes or the top of the range Ford (can't remember) - both
have the St Edward's Crown instead of a numberplate. They use
Government hire cars when interstate.

Marie Bashir, the Governor of NSW, has a grey Holden limousine-type
car, also with the Crown - I've seen her arrive at her office in it.
