Does anyone know what sort of roadworks are still being carried out on
Foreshore Road at Port Botany?

2.5 years ago the speed limit went from 90 to 70 km/h; too slow IMHO for
that long-ish stretch of road with no lights until Botany Road. Now that
there are two extra sets of lights and a pedestrian bridge going to
nowhere constructed, the 70 km/h limit is still there.

It's quite annoying to have to drive at 70 km/h and not go over the
speed limit. Fortunately I have cruise control which makes it far
easier. The other motorists who don't use it make it quite annoying as
the slow down, speed up etc...

must have something to do with the amount of trucks that use the road. though looking at near map i have seen they have added a carpark or two on the southern side, good place for plane spotters

Actually it's to do with the port expansion. The speed reduction and
the new traffic lights are permanent. Even if grade separated
interchanges were used for the new container terminals, the change of
function of the road to basically a container terminal distributor
would have seen the speed limit downgraded.

RIP.

A bit of history - when the road first opened in the mid-1980s (on reclaimed land) there were two sets of pedestrian signals to allow Botany residents access to the foreshore.  I'm not sure why they were later removed.

Interesting to see the new parking area on nearmap.  It appears to be a parking area for trucks & trailers waiting to get in and out of the port.  Foreshore Rd had notoriety for a while with trucks parking along the shoulder.  I recall driving along there a couple of times seeing the regularly placed no parking signs which were routinely ignored.
