New England Highway: Singleton Bypass

This project started late last year and is due for completion next year, 8km single lane bypass at $700mn including the 1.8km bridge for the floodplain and railway crossing.

Feels a little underplanned with only one lane each way for the most part.

Agreed, but I’d imagine they’ve left enough reservation for another carriageway. Given the previous government’s debt, there probably is not a lot left for the current one to use to complete some of the projects that are needed.

All of the New England Highway bypasses are single carriageway. Agree Paul in regard to cost and benefit, as long as there's reservation there and also a median barrier or a wider median which I think they're using on this project. Would certainly prefer a barrier the entire length.

I have seen it stated, somewhere, that it is future-proofed for dualisation. Single carriageway is easily enough for now, especially considering that long floodplain viaducts are expensive.
