It looks like the Hume Highway at Albury is getting renamed to Hume Motorway. Apparently there's a sign at Thurgoona Drive saying M31 Hume Motorway and there's a few other signs in Albury that are coverplated and it is assumed that there's Hume Motorway under the coverplates.

The reason why is the motorway section is proposed go as far as the A41 Olympic Highway interchange once the upgrade at Tabletop is done

What upgrade is being done down there? Grade seperating that intersection?

No lol. That's what they want. But they're just getting some repaving, line marking and brifen fencing.

I think so. Once they do that it will be freeway to beyond the Olympic Hwy, then highway standard after that

The original M31 signage rollout in NSW had Hume Motorway with a Hume Highway coverplate on the signs between Berrima and Table Top. Then for some reason A31 was signed on the Albury Bypass. There seems to have been a conscious decision to not rename the route between Berrima and Table Top when the alphas went live in 2013. Some of the signs never had coverplates though, including an AD sign on Highland Way at Marulan and an RD sign on Barton Hwy near Murrumbateman.

I wouldn't get too excited if this is just on a single sign, it could very well be they've modified an old drawing that had a coverplate over Hume Motorway and someone has not realised that this was done in the first place. If it begins to appear on several signs, then it might be safe to assume there is about to be a change.

The media release says they're doing pavement upgrades and comprehensive investigations for unspecified upgrades of the two intersections at Table Top. It's reminiscent of the Coopernook intersections on the Pacific Hwy but without an obvious conversion to an interchange. It looks to me like the other intersections south of the Olympic Hwy could be taken care of by new access which would for the most part fit within the road reserve.

I had a look on GSV and found that there were many signs peeling after only twenty or so years and in 2024 some were replaced, with borderless M31s of course. The only one of this cohort with the Hume actually named was the eastbound AD on Thurgoona Dr which does have "MWY". There are also several on the Riverina Hwy which were in need of replacement but the most recent image is only 2023, so they might have been done too. I noticed a few surprisingly bad sign placements at that interchange. The c. 2021 signs for the Davey Rd south-facing ramps use "HIGHWAY"

Here's the unusual exit sign for the Riverina Hwy. There's a notch in the fence to fit its conventionally-designed predecessor. I also found this facepalm that was mentioned in a much older conversation on here, but while thankfully it's gone, for some reason they've put "To" in front of the borderless M31 even though it's an ordinary on ramp. There's also this exit AD for the new Davey Rd northbound offramp originally without any route number.
